Welcome to Branxholm.
Just over an hour from Launceston and three and a half hours from Hobart our cabins sit right on the edge of the famed Blue Derby MTB trails, between the wine region of Pipers River and the stunning coastline of the Bay of Fires. When travelling to this part of Tasmania there are many amazing options for day-trips and sightseeing.
You don’t have to be a mountain biker to love Derby, but with shuttles and e-bikes for rental it’s easy for even novice riders to get out and enjoy the trails.
Our recommendations
Mountain biking
If you are travelling without your bike or simply want to try out the trails (maybe for the first time) we recommend the following providers:
For hire of mountain bikes and E-bikes: Evolution Biking
For shuttles and tours: MTB express or MadMTB
Beyond the trails
There’s more to Derby than our impressive MTB community, here are a few of our favourite local haunts:
– Grab an award-winning Tassie cheese on your way to the cabins from Pyengana Dairy Company.
– Check out the nearby Little Blue Lake, a former mining pit that glows a vivid aqua colour due to the minerals that remain in the soil.
– Chase waterfalls at Ralph’s Falls, Halls Falls or Saint Columba Falls State Reserve.
– Finish the day with a pizza (or two) at The Tuscan Fox.
